Be Prepared for the 2021 Virtual College Fair with these FAQs
The 2021 Showcase of HBCU Virtual College & Career Fair is quickly approaching. This virtual event features two days of learning about and celebrating the HBCU experience. The Virtual College Fair will provide a variety of college preparatory and professional learning opportunities via Zoom meetings and breakout sessions.

When is the Virtual College Fair?
The Virtual College Fair will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 and Sunday, November 14, 2021. Please make sure to to register for the event right away so you can receive announcements about dates, times, speaker lineups, updates, etc.

Where is the 2021 Virtual College Fair?
The Virtual College Fair will be hosted virtually via Zoom.

How should I dress for the 2021 Virtual College Fair?
Casual attire is acceptable, but for those meeting with local professionals during the Career Fair and the Pre-College Conference sessions, business attire is encouraged.

How can I share my 2021 Virtual College Fair experience on social media?

We encourage you to share your Learning Day experiences and insights by posting to social media, using the hashtag, #ShowcaseHBCU.

Why can’t I get into the session of my choice?

In order to provide engaging learning opportunities and ensure participation in all sessions, we are asking presenters to limit session capacity to 20 participants. Since it is first come, first serve, if the session is full, please find another session to attend.

How are the sessions set up?

Educational, career, and college sessions will be set up using the breakout rooms feature of Zoom. Attendees will join these breakout rooms to attend the session, and once the session is over the breakout rooms will close and all attendees will be returned to the main Zoom session.

Why can’t I see the Breakout Rooms?

If you are accessing the virtual college fair Zoom meeting from the web client some Zoom features won’t be available. It is recommended that you join the meeting using the Zoom desktop app or mobile app.

How long does each sessions last?

Each session is 30 minutes. 25 minutes will be for the main presentation and the last 5 minutes will be to wrap up final questions, and to allow the Showcase staff to make announcements.

Can my computer or mobile device handle the virtual event?

Most up-to-date computers and mobile devices such as laptops, desktops, and handheld tablets are capable of running the virtual event for you. Please be sure your device meets the system requirements to run Zoom and that your Zoom application has the most recent update.

What do I need to do on the day of the virtual event?

On the morning of the event, please visit the 2021 Virtual College Fair webpage to review the checklist. From the Agenda page, proceed to the schedule to review the sessions that will be available for the day. The classes are first come, first serve; if the session is full, please find another session to attend. Also, review the university booths that are in attendance that day. Meet with college reps and have your questions/concerns answered. At the end of the Virtual College Fair, you will receive an email from the Showcase of HBCU. Please open and  complete the survey.

What happens if I lose my internet connection?

Relaunch your Zoom application or open the Zoom meeting from a web browser. From the Virtual College Fair Agenda page, proceed to the link for the session where you left off and then click on the link for the session you were attending. We apologize for any inconvenience, but since it is first come, first serve, if the session is full, please find another session to attend.

Can I ask questions during the sessions?

We encourage you to ask questions at any time using the chat feature that Zoom provides. There will be a volunteer monitoring the chat to share your questions with the host for response during the live session or afterwards as a follow up.

Do I have access to all of the educational sessions?

In a word, yes! You will be given the opportunity to select which sessions you’d like to attend virtually. Please read over the offerings before the virtual college and know your options. 

Will I be able to see the presenters for each session?

Yes. You will be able to see all general session and educational session speakers along with their presentations.

When will I receive the instructions for attending the virtual event?

After registering for the event, you will receive the necessary instructions to attend the event. Make sure that the email address associated with your registration is accurate and up to date so that there is no delay in receiving communications about the day.
