HBCUs

The Showcase of HBCU has introduced 30% of historically Black colleges and universities to the Kentuckiana area. Partner with us to highlight HBCUs in Louisville, Kentucky and surrounding counties to students.

WHY HBCUs

Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are institutions of higher education that were founded prior to 1964 for the specific purpose of educating African Americans. Shut out of mainstream colleges due to segregation laws, HBCUs served as a beacon to fight against segregation and racism and for the right to an education.

The Showcase of HBCU began as niche marketing avenue to highlight the college and career opportunities available for African American students at black colleges.

  • Students deserve a quality education.

  • Students want to feel nurtured and supported as they work toward their goals.

  • HBCUs have a track record of graduating successful students.

Quick Facts

  • Since March 2006, The Showcase of HBCU has reached more than 12,000 students throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana
  • 98% of the students attending the college fair plan to attend college
  • Only 59% of Black students compared to 70% of White students graduate from Kentucky high schools

HBCU Champions Program

The HBCU Champions Program is a school-based program designed to prepare students for the HBCU showcase college fair. The Champions Program is a recruitment and preparation workshop that serves as an introduction to the Showcase University. This provides a forum to create discussions about college admissions, the HBCU experience, and our program.

We hope to bring excitement and curiosity to students about the HBCU experience and prepare students for the College Fair. We can show them how to begin a path from where they are to where they want to be.
